Posing as a comedic effort from the ever-growing movie giant that is Judd Apatow, Knocked Up is just what the name implies, a story about pregnancy. As the story unravels, however, it becomes clear that this is less a film about yucks and more an honest look at what it means to try and navigate adulthood. Ben Stone (Seth Rogan) is an unemployed, barely hygienic 23 year old who lives in apartment with his four best friends. They drink, they smoke weed (notice the clever allegory?) and they spend their days planning how they are going to get rich quick with their website directory of naked celebrity flesh. read more »

Yet another go around for Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow in the last of Disney’s ever popular Pirates franchise. This time around he starts out stranded in Davy Jones’ locker and it’s up to Orlando Bloom (the six most terrifying words in the English language? Your life depends on Orlando Bloom), Keira Knightly, and (thankfully) Geoffrey Rush who reprises his role as Captain Barbosa. They, along with a smattering of other characters from the first two movies, liberate Jack and from there the movie takes a tumble down the rabbit hole. read more »

This new outing from the makers of the BBC comedy, Spaced and the hit zombie parody, Shaun of the Dead, takes on the classic cop movie. Directed and co/written by Shaun and Spaced director Edgar Wright, the film begins with ace cop Nicholas Angel (co-writer Simon Pegg) at the top of his game. Unfortunately for him, his success rate and efficiency make the rest of the force look inept.
